NO waxed, foil-lined, or plasticized paper
NO waxed coffee cups or ice cream containers
NO hardcover book covers
Gable Top and Tetra Pak
Any CLEAN cartons that contained milk, plant-based milk substitutes, soup, broth, sugar, eggs, sauces and ice cream
Glass
CLEAN glass bottles and jars
PLEASE NOTE: Any glass bottles that contained drinks have a deposit and should go to the Rotary sponsored refundable tent
Soft Plastic
CLEAN grocery, bread, frozen vegetables, food bags, crinkly cellophane wrap, kitchen stretch wrap, snack bags (including crackers), plastic shipping envelopes, bubble wrap, Ziplock Brand bags, overwrap for mattresses, furniture, and electronic equipment
NO foil-lined chip bags or garbage bags of any colour
NO construction wrap or lumber wrap
NO packaging labelled biodegradable or compostable
Refundables
There is a refund on every beverage container sold in BC
These containers are deposited in the Rotary sponsored tent at the left side of BIRD
Most beverage containers, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic are collected
The funds from these containers go to local Bowen Island charities
Small Appliances
All portable small appliances and electronics for the home, that plug in or use batteries.
NOTE: For larger items such as gas and electric outdoor power equipment, please call 604-947-2255 to talk about disposal
Metals
All tin cans and steel cans
NO metal beverage containers
These are collected for return in the Rotary sponsored tent
Phones
All old or used cell phones (working or not working)
Styrofoam
CLEAN Polystyrene (Styrofoam) packaging, food trays, take-out containers, and egg cartons.
NO peanuts
Media
All CDs & DVDs (including cases), VHS tapes (including cases), vinyl records, floppy discs, 8 track, and USB drives
Ink Cartridges
Ink and toner cartridges
NO toner tubes, bottles, tanks or ribbons
Light Bulbs
Household light bulbs, including fluorescent tubes
NO car headlights
Miscellaneous
Batteries including alkaline, rechargeable, and car batteries
Smoke and CO2 alarms
